— About Indolent Designs

Software for the businesses
big SaaS ignores.

Indolent Designs is a small independent studio that builds production software for vertical industries — steel fabrication, freight brokerage, manufacturing. We ship our own products and take on a small number of custom engagements each year.

— Why this exists

The middle of every vertical market is empty.

Three patterns we keep running into — and the reason this studio exists at all.

The $500K vertical-tool problem

Vertical-industry software has historically meant enterprise SaaS at enterprise prices, with implementation projects measured in quarters. That math does not work for the businesses that actually run those industries.

The "no one wants to build this" problem

The most operationally critical software inside small-to-mid businesses tends to be the most ignored by venture-funded software shops. Nobody is building the next $499 nesting tool, the next broker-after-hours voice agent. We are.

The "shop is the spec" problem

Industrial software built without time in the actual industry tends to be obviously wrong in the first ten minutes. We are not building from a conference room.

— What we are good at

The stack, in concrete terms.

No "full-stack generalist" hand-waving. The specific surfaces we have shipped to production, and the technologies we lean on.

Cross-platform desktop

Tauri + Rust + React. Real installers. Real offline. Real auto-updates. Indolent Forge runs on this stack.

Microsoft 365 ecosystem

Azure AD / Entra device-code auth. Microsoft Graph for SharePoint, Teams, Planner, Outlook. Office add-ins. The infrastructure most studios run away from.

AI agents in production

Voice agents (Indolent Trucking handles ~3000 driver calls/month). Claude-powered in-app copilots. Tool calling, RAG, streaming UIs. The right amount of human approval.

Vertical SaaS plumbing

Next.js + Postgres + Stripe + Resend + Railway. Ed25519 license issuance. Webhooks that handle the edge cases.

Industrial domain knowledge

Real understanding of how steel fabrication, freight brokerage, and manufacturing actually run. Not industry-adjacent — industry-resident.

Honest engineering

We will tell you when a custom build does not make sense. We will tell you when off-the-shelf is the right answer. We will tell you when your existing vendor proposal looks fine.

— Principles

Three rules that decide every product.

They decide which features ship, which engagements we take, and which we politely turn down.

The shop is the spec

Every feature gets stress-tested on real jobs before it ships. If it does not survive a Monday morning shear queue, it does not ship.

Owned, not rented

Perpetual licenses where it makes sense (Forge: $499 forever). Month-to-month subscriptions where it makes sense (Trucking — no auto-renew locks). No surprise invoices ever.

Reads the files you already have

Software should fit into your existing workflow, not demand one. KISS files, Excel exports, email inboxes — whatever is there.

— What we ship today

One product live. More on the way.

Today we ship one production product. Indolent Forge Nesting is $499 perpetual desktop nesting software for steel-fabrication estimators — used daily by shops that refuse to spend $15K on SigmaNEST. Next up, Indolent Trucking — a multilingual AI voice agent that covers freight brokers’ after-hours line in five languages — is coming soon.

More products are in development. Custom-build engagements for vertical industries are open on a limited basis.

— The name

Why “Indolent”?

Indolent: inclined to laziness. The good kind — let the computer figure out the best plate layout, let the voice agent handle the 2am driver call, let the integration read the spreadsheet you already have. Go pour coffee.

Good software does the work so you do not have to. That is the whole brand.
